Established in 1987 by David and Dorothy Crystal, Crystal Optometry has built a strong reputation for clinical excellence and personalised care in the local community. Our practice is nestled in the vibrant Canonmills area, surrounded by independent shops and charming cafes.
Recently, Francesca and our team have taken up the mantle, continuing this legacy while bringing a fresh focus on unique, independent eyewear.
We offer a full range of eye care services, including thorough eye examinations, contact lens fittings, and specialised tests and have a carefully curated collection of frames from independent brands.

Our Practice Update
Happy New Year to all our patients. As many of you will be aware, 2024 was a year of transition for the practice. We bid a very fond farewell to Dorothy and David Crystal who founded the practice back in 1987 and are delighted to say that they are thoroughly enjoying their retirement. We welcomed experienced optometrist Tracey Cook to our Canonmills home, to join our dispensing and reception team of Fran, Karla and Hilary.
At the start of this year, we welcomed our new director and optometrist, Neil Gray, to complete our team. Find out more about your well-qualified optometry team below. In new developments, you are now able to book your appointments online via our new website, and when you visit, you will be able to peruse our stylish new range of frames, which you can also browse on our Instagram page.

Meet Our Optometrists
Neil Gray
Neil Gray brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles, further enhancing the expertise offered by the team. An independent prescriber, Neil also has specialist experience in diabetic eye disease and low vision assessments. Neil enjoys utilising the technology he has available at his fingertips, to provide the most accurate picture of patients’ eyes and consequently finding the best outcomes for them. In the practice, he is relishing the opportunity to help further develop the talented team, broadening their knowledge and skill-set. Whilst, sitting on the board of Optometry Scotland allows him to help shape the future of the industry as a whole.
Tracey Cook
Tracey Cook is an experienced optometrist, having cared for patients’ eyes for over 30 years. She has a strong professional and clinical ethos with real attention to detail in everything she does. In particular, she is very experienced in fitting contact lenses, selecting the right lens for the patient, as well as having specialist knowledge in monitoring for glaucoma. As an independent prescriber (IP qualified) Tracey is able treat anterior eye conditions, whilst taking a holistic approach, looking at a patient’s wider health, including how medications may interact with their vision, to provide the best possible care.
